The Marvels New Trailer Revealed The Big Cosmic Teamup of MCU at D23 Expo

The new trailer, featuring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani, isn’t out, but we can describe it to you

The new trailer for Marvel Studios' big MCU cosmic team-up The Marvels debuted today—at least for those in attendance, such as our own Matt Schimkowitz, at Marvel's big D23 panel this afternoon. The film (which is essentially a sequel to both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, with a little WandaVision thrown in for good measure) won't be released for another year—specifically, next July, according to Kevin Feige. But Feige did show a trailer because director Nia DaCosta and stars Brie Larsen, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris were on hand to debut the footage. Unfortunately, it appears that the tease will not be made available online anytime soon, but we do have a description for you:

The trailer begins on the S.A.B.R.E. space station, when Captain Monica Rambeau (Parris) falls into a Fantastic Four-style forcefield while exploring space. She transforms (or switches places with) Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, upon contact.

This brings together Captain Rambeau (who fights as "Spectrum" in the comics these days, after previously going by a variety of names, including Captain Marvel), Carol Danvers, and Kamala Khan, who then all appear at Khan's house in lovely Jersey City, NJ. Khan is obviously thrilled to be forming a team with her idols, but the other two are wary.

The good news is that it appears to be a little brighter and funnier than Captain Marvel, thanks in part to the presence of Kamala Khan, who is as charming here as she was on her own Disney+ show. "[Iman] is a bigger fan than any of you," Kevin Feige joked during the panel, "and we didn't know it when we cast her, and we only regret it a little." Her enthusiasm was palpable, as was that of the audience.
The Marvels will premiere in July of next year.
